Mark Graban is an internationally-recognized consultant, author, and professional speaker who has worked in healthcare, manufacturing, and startups. He is author of the Shingo Award-winning books Lean Hospitals and Healthcare Kaizen, as well as The Executive Guide to Healthcare Kaizen. His most recent book is the anthology Practicing Lean that benefits the Louise H. Batz Patient Safety Foundation, where Mark is a board member.     If these plants in Mexico are shipping back to the states then how could the companies be awarded a prize for being lean. If the prize is going to only look at how lean you are internally and not how lean you are at the enterprise level are we not missing the boat

    The criticisms of the Shingo Prize and its criteria (giving prizes to failing businesses) are well documented here and on other blogs.
