Stiles Associates, LLC – Lean Agile Digest

Stiles Associates is a recruiting/placement firm that focuses on Lean talent and positions. They have posted a review of my book, Lean Hospitals, in their latest newsletter that can be found at the link above or here.

    An excerpt:

With a wealth of experience, Graban explains how to prioritize the implementation of lean into the hospital environment while avoiding common pitfalls. Emphasis is placed on observing processes and on how to employ lean through value stream mapping and standardizing workflow. “To improve our hospitals, there is no substitute for direct observation. Leaders need to see the waste that their employees and physicians have to deal with on a daily basis.” By asking questions such as, “What are the most pressing complaints for patients?’” and “What major departments have been struggling with employee shortages?” managers can identify immediate activities for Kaizen and begin to build awareness and excitement for continuous improvement. Graban includes a complete vision of a lean hospital and emphasizes the need for healthcare leaders to drive change throughout their organization.

Well written with a focus for motivating hospital leaders, Lean Hospitals makes a solid case for using lean to deliver employee respect and improving patient care. Engaging and educational, this book is deservedly getting a lot of press and is highly recommended.
