Video about “Healthcare Kaizen” at Franciscan St. Francis Health System

Below is a very nice video that was produced by Franciscan St. Francis Health System, the organization where my  Healthcare Kaizen co-author Joe Swartz is the Director of Business Transformation.

The video was made for use related to our book's recognition with the Shingo Professional Publication and Research Award that we recently received.

You'll see Joe, clinicians, and leaders at many levels, including their CEO and COO, talk about what Kaizen has meant to their staff, organization, and patients.

You can also view the video on YouTube.

  1. Thank you for the Lean Hospitals and advocate of Kaizen since 90’s and really enjoyed your blog and have shared with connections, clients, and relative who happens to be a Texas Director of large Urgent Health Care clinic and wanted to see if they were engaged and/or interested in your blog and book. Always looking at ways to improve process and systems to make things better.
    Thank you,
    Sheryl Gibson

  2. The COO in the video talks about millions of dollars in savings. Not doubting that but interested in how they track and assess savings. Maybe you have some insight?

    • We talk about this in Chapter 10 of the book: Creating an Organization-Wide Kaizen Program

Franciscan has a small “Kaizen Promotion Office” that reviews and tabulates the results of Kaizens (as submitted to their online database system that they built… this is also the system that allows them to share and search for completed ideas). Ideas above a certain value are reviewed by finance.

Here is an excerpt of some pages that discuss this:
