Lean Healthcare & Virginia Mason Medical Center on the PBS News Hour

Yesterday's PBS News Hour had a piece on the use of Lean and the Toyota Production System at Seattle's Virginia Mason Medical Center:

It's a story that might be familiar to those who follow the Virginia Mason story closely, but it's great national exposure for Lean healthcare.

The piece highlights how Lean leads to better quality, better patient satisfaction, and lower cost. It's a story I hope y'all will help share widely – for those who believe in Lean and need the example to inspire them, as well as those who might still be naysayers about the power of this approach.

For those of you who can't view YouTube at work, you should still be able to read the transcript on the PBS website.

  1. Thanks for posting, Mark. The more the public (and the medical community) is aware of the value of Lean in healthcare, the more support we can get, and the more good we can do.

  2. This is truly an amazing summary and proof that it can be done in a healthcare environment!
Way to go but we still have much work to do.
