The Nun and the Bureaucrat (LEI Link)
I started endorsing and promoting this outstanding DVD and companion book back in 2006 when I first saw it.
The Lean Enterprise Institute has obtained the rights to sell this at a new lower price of $40 (it used to be well over $100). It's a steal at this price.
A preview of the first five minutes is below and on YouTube. NOTE: As of 4/23/09, the online video is now snippets from throughout the video, not just the first five minutes. This presents a much more balanced view of the full DVD:
The first few minutes are somewhat harsh on the problems and risks of hospitals and healthcare, but the primary focus of the video is what hospitals are doing, with Lean and Systems Thinking approaches, to FIX these problems.
Highly recommended.

It may be a good video, but saying that hospitals CAUSE death, etc. is akin to saying that being born causes death, etc. If the video relies on scare tactics to promote it’s message, then count me out, no matter the price.
The intro is a bit heavy handed. Its not the video I would make.
But,there is a serious problem in healthcare. I’d argue that “cause” is the right word when you look at preventable errors.
The video really is a “good news” story about what two hospitals did to get better. And we need more of that.
