IW Webcast: Lean Tools

Here's an Industry Week webcast that promotes:

Six Sigma, Lean, or Kaizen? Using the Right Tool for the Right Problem

I hope they will also cover the cultural and management aspects of lean. Lean isn't just a “tool”, it's really much more than that.

Either way, hope it's a good webcast.

    1. 1st off Shame on me I didn’t watch the webcast.
My issue is the very title. Using the right tool for the right problem….If I am not mistaken LEAN is a System (Toyota Production System). I see Six Sigma as a specific problem solving Methodology, yes some of the tools used cross over Under the TPS/Lean System. Kaizen is the spirit, as well as an event or tool to some.

Mark, et, al.: Am I off base here or does the rest of the US Based businesses not get it?

    2. You still have a chance to watch it, January 11. I think you got my point exactly, JWDT. Lean is more than tools. Companies who view lean as a “cost cutting” tool are probably doing more harm than if they just continued business as usual.

I’m hoping to see the webcast, but might not be able to due to work schedules. I’m hoping someone will “sign up” here to watch the webcast and report out to the rest of us.

    3. I have to agree – the premise of the question is wrong. I know of one company that spent a year trying to decide lean or six sigma. For my money, they just wasted a year. That’s why I wrote a forthcoming column “Lean or Six Sigma — and why it’s the wrong question” that will appear soon in Assembly Magazine. I’ll post it when it’s available.
