To end the week, here's a piece by our friend John Toussaint, MD, CEO of the ThedaCare Center for Healthcare Value, that was published on CNBC.com:

Don't Kill Me! What I Want From the Healthcare System: Author of ‘Potent Medicine

Even though John was a practicing physician and a CEO (of the health system ThedaCare), he can also see the health system from the patient perspective. What does he want as a patient?

  1. Don't kill me
  2. Keep me healthy
  3. Don't keep me in the dark

John ends the piece with:

I want the health system to work for me not the other way around. I expect higher quality lower cost care with me the patient in charge of the decisions. That's a prescription we can all live with.

  1. I use the following VOC quote, “I didn’t come to the hospital to D.I.E. – to be a victim of accidental Death, Injury/Infection, or Error!”
