Today, I'm sharing a few links featuring the thoughts of John Toussaint, M.D., the CEO Emeritus of the ThedaCare health system in Wisconsin and current CEO of the ThedaCare Center for Healthcare Value. John is a partner with the Lean Enterprise Institute in our Healthcare Value Leaders Network.

In the past two weeks, John has written blog posts on the theme of organizational transformation.

In the first post, John talks about how executives can move beyond vague, fuzzy statements of mission and purpose, turning instead to something more specific and more meaningful.

Next, John discusses ThedaCare's iterations at defining True North measures, admitting they didn't have it right the first time around.

Interview with John

The new site LeanROI.org  also published a six-part discussion with John, where he discusses:

  1. Long- and Short-term ROI
  2. Getting Started
  3. What Lean Means to Me
  4. Culture Change
  5. Course Corrections and Sustainability
  6. Leadership

If you appreciate what John has to say, you might be interested in the two-part video training event that we are producing, featuring John and other leaders from ThedaCare, about Strategy Deployment (a.k.a. “hoshin kanri”).

If you have comments, you can leave them on John's blog or on the individual pages of the LeanROI.com site. Or, if it's a really general comment about everything, you can leave it here, if you like.

  1. These are quick-hitting, meaty articles and in my opinion a must read for any healthcare leadership that is considering beginning a lean journey – and for those even well into one. As read them I could reflect back, sometimes with a Homer Simpson, “D’oh!” (palm slapping forehead), thinking, “If I only knew then…”
