The World’s First Lean Radio Show?

.:: AM 790 – Talk & Business – WPRV ::.

I just learned about this… debuting today at 4 PM eastern on 790 AM in Rhode Island… the show “The Lean Nation” with Karl Wadensten.

I’m going to listen… I wonder how many tuning in will think it’s a weight loss show? I’m really curious to hear how this turns out, both the show and any chance of success on a real radio station.

The Lean Nation The Lean Nation Monday – Friday: 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Karl Wadenstein, president of Rhode Island’s VibeCo. Industries hosts “The Lean Nation”

Here’s a video with the host (warning, it’s a “Gemba” video with lots of horrible grinding noises in the background):

I missed the radio show. I am curious to hear your thoughts on how this program contributes to the lean community.

I'm curious how the economics work out for a show that's so narrowly focused. It's all Lean all the time, which seems more suited for the realm of blogs and podcasts than mass market radio (the well-known national host Dave Ramsey is the show before him).

This is awesome – I hear he is travelling all over and is doing the show from Toyota's back yard!!!
Cool.

I think that there is a real need for wider public knowledge of Lean… and this show is a platform to do just that.

When I think about how much waste is in every aspect of our lives – at work, at home, in government (especially) – it reinforces just how important it is to make Lean accessible and understandable to all.

People who don't know about Lean don't participate in the blogosphere… but they do listen to the radio. If the hear something that makes sense – that gives them something tangible to help their business – then they'll keep listening.

Unsolicited listener feedback to Karl… long time listener, first time commenter… (ha ha, radio joke).

I did listen to about half of the show on the internet yesterday (other than work interruptions). I wish Karl great success in spreading the word.

My concerns:

1) Amp up the energy level, Karl. The energy I saw in that YouTube video didn't come across on the radio. Maybe it was first day nerves, but have some fun.

2) I'm concerned that someone tuning into the middle of the show is going to go "huh??" It's one thing to jump into the middle of a political blowhard yelling about politics, since that's more widely known and in the news. Lean is a niche topic… would a radio show about accounting do well?

I hope Linda is right that this will open Lean to a wider audience. My fear is that all of the buzzwords and terminology will confuse or intimidate, rather than enlighten. This is quite a challenge Karl has taken on, so good luck!

I'll be back to listen again.

I wasn't able to listen to "Captain Karl" today, but here is a news story about the launch of his show:
