I just landed in Tokyo on United, and out of curiosity I was listening to cockpit comm on channel 9 during the approach. The Narita tower guys were communicating in English... barely. Some pilot on a nearby Northwest flight had to ask the tower to repeat instructions three times before they were clear. Then on came the Aeromexico pilot, in heavily Spanish-accented English, trying to communicate with the heavily Japanese-accented English tower guys...<br/><br/>Geesh... even cops communicate with squad cars via electronic texts to their onboard computers. Can't we do the same in the air?<br/><br/>Happy birthday by the way! I fly back on my birthday, and thanks to leaving late and crossing the date line my birthday will be 42 hours long.
