My September column Leading Lean is now out for Assembly Magazine. Check it out here.
I talk about trends in lean. Lean evolves. We evolve. Two of main topics are the intense interest in lean accounting, and the slow-cooking progress of lean product development.
If you are interested in lean accounting, the 2nd Lean Accounting Summit is being held in Orlando in two weeks. Check it out.

I particularly agree with your ending comments:
“A mix of inside leadership with outside help and experience can be a powerful combination for achieving the continuous improvement you seek. Outsiders can not lead for you. They can only help. You must lead yourself.”
Balance is the key, I agree. A consultant can help, but don’t expect the consultant to “do lean” for you. As management, you can’t abdicate your responsibility to lead the organization through change. Don’t expect a consultant’s “change management” package to replace real leadership on your part. By paying a consultant, you’re getting advice and help — and maybe avoiding mistakes that the consultant made THEIR first time through lean.
