Today's WSJ ($$ subscription required) has an article about GM's newest director, Jerry York.

Since he'll spend a lot of time rabble rousing in Detroit, he's having a house built there.

He's now building an exact duplicate of his Connecticut saltbox-style home in the Detroit area with his wife, whom he remarried.

Either he's extremely inflexible or this is a great example of "standardization" (it's nice if you can afford it and a private Gulfstream jet). Or, it's like Intel's "Copy Exact" philosophy that has served their factories well.

Under the strategy, "exact" means exact, according to sources. Except for the language on the exit signs, facilities in Ireland and Israel are nearly indistinguishable.

Former Intel CEO Craig Barrett probably had multiple homes (including the Phoenix area). I wonder if he followed the Jerry York philosophy? :-)
